Council Bluffs, Is, June 19. The city will follow government guidance for a patriotic Fourth of July observance in wartime. Fireworks will be completely eliminated and a substitute program will be used to foster patriotism among foreign-born citizens with clear ideas of what the holiday means.

Lightning struck a farm near Villisca causing a fire that burned the big barn on D. E. Loman’s property. Estimated loss about 10,000 dollars with the barn insured for roughly 5,500. The structure was among the finest in Montgomery county and sparked further concern over storm damage in the area.
About 1 100 bushels of wheat in Pottawattamie County were requisitioned by the government and moved to nearby shipping points for transport to Minneapolis mills under federal contract. The action was ordered by R H Huntington secretary of the county food administration.
A readjustment of military organization at Camp Dodge is planned to convert it into an infantry replacement camp for about 60,000 men. The change will occur next year after the Eighty-eighth division ships overseas, according to war department plans.

He has qualified and all debts should be paid to him and all claims presented to the court for allowance within the time allowed by law. Dated June 5 1918. American medical officers in France report trench fever is spread by trench lice. Seven to sixty six American soldiers volunteered to be bitten by lice to prove the link, a discovery hailed as rivaling Gorgas’s yellow fever work. The finding supports skin infection controls and new protective garments by the Atlantic Mothers’ club for soldiers in the trenches.
