Washington reports growing Democratic resolve to finish a tariff revision and wind up the extra session without currency reform actions. The bill moves toward Senate caucus by week’s end, while currency reform waits for the regular session in December.
Ericanbrach was arrested by a U S marshal on a federal indictment charging an attempt to bribe Senator Works. He allegedly offered 1000 dollars for the postmaster at Santa Barbara after writing a letter to the senator and admitted the act saying he thought paying a congressman for a political job was common practice.
Secretary Bry an cancels speaking engagements in Charlestown Massachusetts tonight and Lowell Massachusetts June 19 as a busy week at the State Department looms. The schedule includes handling the Japanese situation ambassadorial appointments and protests against tariff provisions while he stays in Washington before July. John Kirby Jr appeals to Wilson to veto the sundry civil bill over Sherman act labor union funding provisions.
Berlin on June 16 marked the twenty fifth anniversary of William II accession and the death of Frederick III. The emperor and empress attended a memorial service in Potsdam and he laid a wreath on his father's tomb. Jubilees began with reveilles in the Schloss yard as vast crowds filled Berlin. Police report traffic congestion and ban on crossings from Brandenburg Gate to the Schloss as Unter Den Linden was brilliantly decorated and crowded.
Warrants were issued for five professors and surgeons of the University of Pennsylvania medical department on cruelty to animals tied to vivisection of dogs. They must appear before a police magistrate next Saturday. John R. K. Scott, counsel for the women's society, says the action targets needless cruelty after experimentation, not vivisection itself.
In Calumet Michigan on June 16 the ore steamer Jesse Spalding, damaged in a collision with coal steamer William P Snyder Jr, is missing on Lake Superior near Keweenaw point. Distress signals ceased in fog and Snyder backtracked unable to locate the other vessel. In Harrisonville Missouri on June 16 Mrs May Kellar charged with murder of her husband Arthur Kellar and seven-year-old daughter Margaret pleaded not guilty. Trial set for July 7. she held without bail.
Oakland, June 16. Miss Natalias Sutilff Joseph Souza and Westley Hoffelt died instantly when motorcycles collided on a sharp curve. The woman was hurled over a fence and fell thirty feet from the scene. Miners Vote to Renew Strike in West Virginia

Superintendents must submit participant lists for songs drills and recitations and entries for races to Miss An nk Q Temple chairing the entertainment committee. Entries due by Tuesday noon June 17 1918. Hoop ball throwing sack potato and various races for two age groups 14 and under 18 and over 16 for races 100 220 440 and more.
