In 1917 a Atlantic Iowa issue prints a poem by Geo Matthew Adams criticizing war-time hesitation and urging support for the war effort. The piece laments delays by leaders and pleads for Americans to fund military needs, contrasting nostalgia with wartime urgency.
Thirty five years ago today June 16 1882 the Reynalds House proprietor C M Reynolds received a watch charm from his employer on the birthday of Miss M J Glavia of Griswald who was robbed in Council Bluffs and returned home. Various locals and visitors are noted: H M Boorman and wife from a wedding trip through Wisconsin Miss Nellie Root Geneseo Ill visiting Alma Reynolds Eli Clayton farmer Potawatomi County in Atlantic EB Hawes back from Muscatine H Nelson implement man to Adair George W Jones of the Turf Exchange has left and the Exchange closed John R Reynolds returned from a tournament Thus Green of Sarah in the city Misses Green and Burton Brayton in town."
A fragment notes that on this date in 1902 a Sunday issue was not published. It mentions Mr. Cotton and his daughter returning from an Illinois trip and invites readers to Kirk's Grove tomorrow afternoon.

John Goetsch celebrates silver wedding with 100 guests. Red Cross bandage drive to be organized at school from 2 to 5 pm with $370.50 in funds and 720 members reported. Holger Neeygaard born Denmark Aug 30 1880 died in Walnut June 11 funeral at Presbyterian church. Rudolph Lafrentz welcomes a nine pound daughter. Mrs Ernest Stafford of South Dakota and Miss Pannie Rebus of St Louis visiting the Foote home.
A long list of local visitors and travelers is recorded with many names. Mrs Minge from California visited D M Kite and family with her son Morris. Mrs Sparigler and Imogene Sparigler returned from Spencer. Agnetla Craney came home from Council Bluffs. James Pope left for Roche Percee Canada on business. Numerous locals hosted or visited relatives in Atlantic Audubon Hartley Cedar Falls Grinnell Council Bluffs and Omaha during the week February through June events.
