Des Moines reports a street railway firm demanding a franchise before proceeding with track reconstruction and paving. The move blocks city improvements, pushes the council to approve a new charter, and signals the company will submit its own franchise terms soon.
Seven of nine railroads that sued to block lower coal rates ordered by the state railroad commission have dropped the suits in U S district court. The Rock Island and Minneapolis and St. Louis railroads are expected to dismiss soon, seen as a railroad victory though surface shows defeat. D J Palmer of the commission said operators found the lower rates no advantage and withdrew the application, ending the order. Degree of Honor elects same officers at Sioux City convention with no dissent.
