Massena Man Loses Automobile In A Fire

Massena June 10 Harry Eb len lost his Overland automobile when it burned after leaking fuel caused by a dugout fire started by dogs. Fire crews helped extinguish it, then the car reignited at his father's farm and exploded while he fetched help, gutting the vehicle, insured for 600 dollars. W. N. Willoughby reported his car stolen last week and recovered the vehicle and a suspect in police custody yesterday, tied to other thefts.

Lieutenant John Fred Meade of Omaha married Miss Delia Verne Stocking at the bride’s mother Mrs Lottie Lay home in Denison. Rev Boyd of the Methodist church officiated. City notes the event in this June report.

Chairman M. P. Conway and State Agent W. A. McKee visited Edna township to learn why twenty acres of perfectly good corn on a young farmer’s quarter section stood unharvested. The farmer, absent, gave no reasons. Conway pledged action to prevent waste and idle land during wartime. The field originally covered forty acres, half husked and replanted, the rest remaining. The corn is high quality, and Conway planned to contact the farmer to resolve the issue.

Ada Ir In June 10 Corporal Lloyd Gettys of Stuart was killed in France May 27. He was engaged to be married to Miss Frances F Cox of Des Moines formerly of Adair, daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Cox of Des Moines, former Adair residents. Miss Cox first learned of Gettys death through the latter's mother.

Box Social Nets Eighty Dollars For Red Cross

A box social held Friday evening at the school in district No. 3 Washington township raised eighty dollars for the Red Cross. CG A Zell mer auctioned the boxes. Mise Loretta Talty teaches the school. Quieting Title Suit Over Land in Cass Iowa

Plaintiff seeks to establish and quiet title to land described as parts of Section 2 Township 75 North Range 37 Cass County Iowa. The petition claims defendants claim some right to the real estate but that such claims are junior to the plaintiff. It alleges grantors held uninterrupted possession for over twenty years under color of title and that unknown claimants include heirs and others of John Russell Sr. The suit asks for quiet title in fee simple, barring any adverse claims, and costs.
