Des Moines 4 Norman Cohn 16 son of a Waterloo grocer became governor of Hawkeye Boys State after elections that featured a civil rights focus. Cohn, federalist, 405 votes to 809 for Richard Risner 17 Sioux City nationalist. Others named include lieutenant governor elected John Tarr 16 Fort Dodge and numerous state officials with Cedar Rapids Mason City Waterloo ties.

Funeral services for Robert Taylor 26 former Grant resident who died Wednesday in Salem Oregon of a heart ailment will be held Monday afternoon at the In cal Methodist church. Rev A Breening will officiate and burial will be at Grant. He was born November 4 1923 on a farm southwest of Grant and married Anita Stewart November 12 1944. He moved to Salem four years ago and is survived by his wife his parents Mr and Mrs Joe Taylor of Omaha a year and a half old daughter Mary Lee and a brother Ed of Omaha. The body will arrive Saturday and lie in state at his grandmother Mrs RD Taylor home. Grand Roland of Corning is in charge of the funeral.
Des Moines reports the end of the school year curbs measles and chicken pox in some areas. Dr. Ralph Heeren notes both diseases are in decline as school activity ends, with rural isolation aiding control though cities may not see much impact. Last year showed higher measles prevalence. a slight uptick in chicken pox occurred this year.
