Salk Defends Polio Vaccine in Atlantic City Visit
Dr. Jonas E. Salk answered key questions about his polio vaccine in Atlantic City. One shot provides strong protection for six months or longer and reduces the chance of paralytic polio. A second shot can be delayed up to 30 months and given in summer if polio is prevalent. A vaccinated child can still transmit polio to family members in rare cases.
