Wayne Walker 17 year old graduate of Franklin high school Cedar Rapids was shot in the temple during a Russian roulette attempt at the Shurtz home. Witnesses Billy Fairbanks and Gene Worden, both 16, saw the event while Mrs. Mildred Shurtz and her daughter were present. Walker was taken to University hospitals Iowa City in critical condition.
There were 108 enrolled at the opening of the vacation religious school for the Wiota Anita parish at the Wiota Catholic church Monday. The school will culminate with confirmation Sunday, June 18. Instructors are Sisters Mary Siena Mary Victoria and Marie Celine from All Saints' parochial school in Des Moines and Delores Neiens of Wiota.
Census director Rodney Birkrecht reports Benton county population fell from 22,879 in 1940 to 22,643 in 1950. Center Point in Linn county gains 120 residents since 1940, bringing its total to 981.

A grease fire gutted the Jes-Mil club kitchen in Storm Lake on Monday. Owner Jess Burt estimated the damage at 3000 dollars and said it is fully insured.
