Mason City Iowa July 20 The owner of H H A Dyer former department commander of the Town G A R was held this morning at the Christian church The deceased was born in Somerset shire England March 1843 and his father who moved to Iowa in 1848 founded the town of Dyersville Mr Dyer enlisted in 1862 in the Twenty fifth Iowa He was adjutant general of the Department of Iowa G A R and lived at Des Moines in 1897 and 1898 In 1910 he was elected commander of the state GA R He was a resident of Mason City for years coming there in 1872 and he was a popular hotel landlord for a quarter of a cenitury His wife and son Harry WH Dyer survive him

Des Moines July 26: The state board of parole refused a pardon for Sophia Kruger the eighty six year old widow serving a life term from Howard county for the murder of her husband aged seventy five. She is confined at Anamosa can speak but limited English and spends much time on fancy work. Also denied a pardon was Chris Ekerlebe another offender sentenced from Jackson county fifteen years ago for the murder of Minnie Kiel a young girl. He confessed to another prisoner while awaiting trial.
