New York dan 21 Mineral discoveries reported by W J Davey from Beaver Lake district in the north of Saskatchewan include several veins of high grade gold and copper and a body of asbestos with fibre in some caves fifteen inches in length.
In Lisbon on January 22 a bank run by depositors backed by a large crowd at J. H. Totta’s office prompted urgent cash withdrawals. A local merchant, enraged by the scene, jumped the counter reviling the crowd and invoking the head of the firm’s honor.
A crowd erupted as gratitude turned to threat when the bank’s staff paid out deposits. Cheers echoed as an elderly woman was carried aloft, while withdrawers tore dresses to pieces. The bank later reported most funds returned and a dressmaking shop reopened on Maple Street by Phoebe Green and Anna Simmons.
