Constitutionality of Auto Law Is Attacked

In WIBSTER CITY Iowa January 12 an appeal is filed in a case from this city challenging the constitutionality of the automobile registration law. State vs B H Gish charged with operating a car on public highways without a number plate for the year. Gish says he sent $12.96 to the secretary of state for an auto number and received a receipt. he was arrested and at trial could not show tender. On appeal to the Iowa supreme court, his attorney argues the tax method and the overall law violate the constitution.

Sunday Morning Fire Destroys Adair Storefront

A Sunday morning blaze began between the ceiling and roof in the front of the Adair building, nearly destroying Jas McDonnell’s stock and P. Lally’s building. Suspected caused by a broken electric wire, the fire burned the top of the structure before being stopped. The roof was saved and the building will be rebuilt promptly. Water works aided firefighting.

Firefighters Achieve Best Battle With New System

The firemen delivered their best effort yet with the new system during a blaze that damaged Burr hardware and Correll meat market. McDonnell and Lally carried insurance, both adjusted. Loss is estimated near ten thousand dollars. the brick wall separating McDonnell store and the meat market will require partial rebuilding.
