Capt Edward V Rickenbacker of Columbus Ohio tops the list of American air aces with twenty six confirmed victories in France. The war department reports sixty three aces overall with five or more victories. Lt Frank Imke Jr and Maj Victor Lufbery also noted as top fliers.

Foster's Bulletin forecasts disturbance crossing the continent January 14 to 18 with a warm wave January 13 to 17 and a cool wave January 16 to 20. Temperatures rise toward January 22 with little precipitation. Warmer air moves across the Pacific, crossing Rockies by January 20 and reaching eastern sections by January 23, while winter grain may suffer from late freezes.
In Audubon county, Henry Behler died at his Ridge Road home after days of influenza and pneumonia. A coroner's inquest found death due to pneumonia mainly from lack of proper attention, amid disputed care by Dr. Childs and chiropractor O M Kingsbury. A public discussion followed at a local sale, with pleas of medical doubt and chiropractic advocacy lingering in a heated dispute reported by the Audubon Advocate.
