A Sunday morning blaze at Griswold caused about A$20,000 in property damage. Fire units battled flames after reports of a building fire in the area. Details on the origin and cause were not immediately available.
Early Sunday a disastrous blaze on Cass Street destroyed the Livery Barn and the Grennell Garage, with several other buildings damaged. Firemen saved the Boiler Building but the Grennell Garage and the livery barn burned. total losses included two trucks, two autos, and equipment. The fire origin is unknown and insurance for Grennell was about $5,000.
Farmers of Cass County may win a silver trophy at the State Corn and Stall Grain Show in Ames Iowa January 29 to February 5. The Whitney Bank of Ames funds the cup for the best ten carloads of corn shown. The winner’s name is engraved on the trophy and can’t win it twice. A second cup may be eligible.
