In Hackettstown New Jersey Mr and Mrs Caleb Johnson are reunited after more than thirty two years apart. Mrs Johnson arrived from Hoboken, met at the station by her husband and Mildred Loder. The couple, now reconciled, welcomed a son and a daughter and plan to spend their days together.
A home made cough syrup using Pinex and sugar syrup costs about 54 cents for a pint, claimed to beat heady remedies and help dry or tight coughs quickly. The ad touts effectiveness for bronchitis and whooping cough, with a money back guarantee and directions on purchase from a druggist.
Lourg L Moore an Alton druggist refused Pollen Magistrate Maguire permission to kiss his bride Mrs Nellie R Morton after the ceremony The magistrate quipped that the bride should kiss the groom if any kisses remained The groom stopped the bride from kissing the magistrate saying he was too old A Cleveland woman wearing fur top shoes was attacked by a dog that bit the trim from one shoe The dog may have mistaken the fur for cat fur prompting a note on mice staying away
A patient from Henriettta New York recounts kidney illness that ended his blacksmith work after three months of futile medical treatment. Swamp Root cure enabled him to regain appetite sleep and weight and return to his trade. He endorses Dr Kilmer Co claims and notes a notarized testimonial dated July 20 1909.
A collage of quips and stray lines from historical papers includes remarks on gas bombs in trenches, a planetary dark feature possibly from a nighttime event, criticism of chess being printed on sports pages, a quip about Vassar and a daisies chain, and a joke about a ventilator for streetcars.

A crowded week in Wiota features Atlantic visitors and locals traveling to Des Moines, Morris Des Moines and nearby towns. Notable events include oratorical contests at the M E church with winners Roy Coomes and Claude Spry, and portraits of residents visiting relatives in Atlantic Brayton Maine Des Moines and Anita.
The Elk Horn Ladies Ash Society will meet at the F Fredrickson home on Washington street. A college Pie social by the Beta club drew about fifty pies and $85 for the club. A silver wedding reception near Marna drew a large local crowd. Jens Dixon, a Danish missionary, visited town with friends. Rev. Anker of Lincoln will lecture at the college. Box social at Hansen Heights schoolhouse and at the hall benefited the baseball club. Numerous local visits and readings marked a busy week with several dinners and gatherings noted.
A Highland Park college student departed Des Moines to assume a manager role at the Chicago branch of Charles Reign Scovilla Pub. Co. Friends wish him success. The College Society plans a Sunday meeting at the college with Rev. Anker of Lincoln, Nebraska delivering a lecture. Nearby residents Jensen family moved to Elk Horn and now reside on Washington Street. Frank Mardesen and family relocated last week to a Buck Creek area farm he rents.
In Alton Illinois James P Pack ages seventy three repays 20 cents plus interest for two shirts washed by Mary Smith before his 1859 marriage. He finally produced a 76 cent receipt after fifty six years of debate. Mrs Pack claimed the debt. he argued it was canceled by marriage. The town planned a pay up week to settle debts.
Miss Ethel R. Sweeney of Concord Delaware sent a letter to Wilmington mayor seeking a husband for a lonely country girl and sparked a flood of undelivered mail. Rural carrier Frank Wheatley reports heavy loads of letters to be forwarded as searches for the young woman continue with no success.
Wellesley organ recital aid provided free beef tea and crackers after exams. During Teste Cambridge, Alas Hadelitte Birls received meals as a boost for mid winter exams. President Pendleton arranged daily morning organ recitals to build poise and confidence for the Cambridge students with Hamilton selecting three pieces daily of light and classical music.
The Des Moines Eisteddfod society holds its third annual event with prizes up to 400 dollars for the chief choral competition. Chicago composer Dr Daniel Protheroe adjudicates and has judged the Utica National Eisteddfod for two years. The program features large choirs, sixteen voice groups, quartets, duets, and youth entries in violin and vocal sections.
Singers from central Iowa polnots will be here during the day and take part in the competitions. Look for Zellmer and McDermott at the event, as noted in this issue, to Dr. H K Williams, Venttat, in Fob ton building, Fifth and Chestnut.
Beekeepers from across the United States converge on Chicago to attend the annual national convention. For three days the event focuses on professional beekeeping activities and industry talks. B N Gates of Amherst Massachusetts serves as association president.
