The notice states the publication, NEWS PUBLISHING COMPANY, is a member of the United Press Association and that the Atlantic Iowa post office accepts it as second class matter under the March 3 1879 act.
Robert G. Cousins recalled John Brown and his 1857 58 winter with ten companions at the Springdale Quaker settlement in Cedar County. The Maxon residence stood unused and was later noted for the names scratched on its parlor wall. Movements to purchase and preserve the Maxon home for its historical link to Brown gain momentum.

Mrs. J. P. Dinges of Fifth and Spruce Streets swears Doan's Kidney Pills relieved years of kidney trouble and rheumatic pain, with ankles swelling and aching. Nine years later she still endorses them and urges their use. 60c at all dealers. Foster Milburn Co Buffalo N Y. Advertisement.
A satirical pledge proclaims killing rats to save grain, claiming a ratless day is needed. The speaker notes using an ax on nine rats, borrowing cats to kill more, arguing against food shunning while rats threaten supplies. The Governor proclaims February 26 to March 2 as State Enrollment Week for the United States Boys Working Reserve. Facing a labor shortage from 30,000 men in military service, Iowa mobilizes readers aged 16 to 20 to support agriculture and ally efforts by volunteering through the reserve.
Governor Harding warns parents against urging sons to join the Boys Working Reserve describing it as volunteer patriotic work. It offers physical and mental development, wages, and a bronze badge of honor from the Labor Department. Dated February 18, 1918, at Des Moines.
City Clerk T B Nichols proposes planting flowers to fill the basin and plant earth along with vines on the upright section of the city park fountain to improve appearance. The plan has gained popular support as a practical beautification idea.
