Des Moines city council approved a dance hall license for Nick Franceschine at Johnnie Critelli's club despite objections by Assistant County Attorney Ed Thayer who called him a fugitive from justice. Thayer noted Franceschine has been indicted for liquor conspiracy since 1944 and remains under Polk county charges.

Estherville authorities announce funeral services for Mr. William Guge and his wife Mrs. Guge both aged 55. William died from injuries from a collision between their car and a Rock Island train two miles north of Estherville last Monday, while Mrs. Guge was killed in the crash.
A powerful quake rocked the Seattle area and stretch to northern Oregon and Canada last night at 8 18 pm PST. It caused property damage and minor injuries with tremors felt over a 120 000 square mile area. The University of Washington seismograph recorded the quake for 20 minutes as ships steamed up and residents reported a blinding flash from power lines.
