Present indications show good farm laborers will receive 80 dollars per month plus board and washing during the coming season. The wage surge, up from twenty years ago, reflects war demand and labor scarcity as young men enlist, with farmers debating how to meet needs—some cutting acreage, others paying high wages to attract help.
Fred C. McMillan a leading Des Moines businessman will fill the United Presbyterian church pulpit Sunday morning and evening replacing the pastor Currie. He has long sought such speaking opportunities and recently aided an Atlanta Sunday campaign. McMillan is noted for church work from a layman’s view and holds diverse coal and railroad interests in Des Moines.

Bechtel and Company of Davenport purchased a $40,000 issue of Audubon county bridge fund bonds. The bonds were authorized by the county board of supervisors at a recent session. They bear 5 percent interest and mature in five years.
A 128 foot well with an eighteen inch casing was completed on Reuben Lose’s farm in Glenwood Ta. Fel. 7 A. A shepherd dog fell into the open well and could not be rescued. Farmer Ross will dig a new well to replace the damaged one.
Webster City Iowa Feb 7 The coal Magonte lodge has received ten dollars through the will of John C Carey who had been a member here for many years. The money was left for the lodge at the temple here in Hamilton county.
