2 4 D Sprayers Move Toward Farm Use

Ames reports Iowa State college pathologists E P Sylvester and A L Bakke say pressure spray units for applying 2 4 D will become standard farm equipment. Low pressure sprayers from tractors reduce drift. Elmer Larson of Stratford built a $60 homemade unit sprayed oats and more. Chemicals cost about 94 cents per acre. at least 356 custom spraying units exist in the state with reliable gear to tackle large weed infestations.

Farm land values in seven states near 1925 peaks

Washington December 31 The Bureau of Agricultural Economics reports farm real estate prices in the seven states west north central have matched 1925 highs but remain below 1920 peaks. As of Nov 1 values were 126 percent of the 1912-14 base with March to July gains slowing to three points. North Dakota leads with a 20 percent rise since 1946. Other states show substantial but smaller increases and sales volume has declined less in this region.
