Mass meeting in Nevada againt high taxes and bond issues

Five hundred taxpayers from Story County gathered in Nevada for a mass meeting at the courthouse to oppose current public expenditure and tax levies. They urged suspending road and public works until farm and factory outputs balance, cutting levies by 36 percent, reducing highway engineering by 6 percent, trimming the county fair budget, and requiring public votes for bond issues. Commission Denied in Devine v Wilkins Trial Verdict

In district court on Monday the jury ruled for the defendant in the suit brought by Joseph Devine seeking 4600 commission for a land sale. Devine claimed an oral agreement on June 13, 1921, with Richard Wilkins of 466 acres in Butte County Iowa that a 500 commission would be paid for trading the land for Iowa land. He alleged a trade with James D. Watters and that the payment was due. Attorneys were Cockshoot for Wilkins and R J Swanson for Devine. C Butler to see better.
