Prisoner Attacks Foreman at Fort Madison Prison
John Meltzer a life prisoner attacked foreman Roy Maxson at the state penitentiary after a reprimand for loitering at work. Maxson, 30, suffered a possible skull fracture and is in critical condition at a hospital. Meltzer, sentenced for first-degree murder in Des Moines in 1909, had no prior serious disciplinary infractions.
