Week end fire in Marion causes $75,000 damage
Fire Chief L E Cooper estimated the loss at 75000 after a weekend blaze gutted a Marion building. An explosion in the basement is believed to have started the fire Saturday, damaging a grocery and hardware store downstairs and the Eagle club plus D A Stamy insurance offices upstairs. A nearby drug store and upstairs apartments suffered smoke and water damage but were saved by a fire wall.

Mary L Humphrey 85 of southwest of Wiota died at Atlantic Memorial hospital Sunday morning at 6 25 from a heart ailment. Born January 18 1862 in Risor Norway she came to Atlantic as a young woman with two brothers and married Elishe Miller Humphrey May 28 1887. The family farmed south of the Wiota cemetery and she was a charter Busy Bee member and Methodist. Surviving are three daughters Mrs Emery Oler Anita Iowa Mrs Nllf Larson Mapleton and Mrs Boggs Risor Norway twin sisters Mrs Helga Trydal and Mrs Emma Nylund of Risor Norway two brothers James Larson Port Angeles Washington and Nels Larson Olympia Washington eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday at 2 pm at Roland Peacock Baxter funeral home with Rev L D Thomas officiating. Interment Atlantic cemetery.
