Washington, Aug. 1. A coalition of house Republicans and conservative Democrats defeated the $1.96 billion lending bill as President Roosevelt’s program suffered a second setback this session. The roll call stood 193 to 166 against the measure, with 43 Democrats and 150 Republicans voting no. The fate of the $800 million housing bill remained uncertain as leaders indicated no immediate votes.

Three Anita Horses Die After Mysterious Illness
