Cedar Falls April 21 Pete Peterson a dairy farmer near here holds the champion milk cow of Iowa. His Holstein produced ninety three pounds or over twelve gallons of milk in a single day, according to all known records.

Dissolution Plan Extended In Union Pacific Southern Pacific Merge

Judges consider extending the deadline to July 1 for filing a dissolution plan for the Union Pacific Southern Pacific merger. Judge Lovett proposes a plan deposing $12,050,000 Southern Pacific stock with a trustee, issuing nonvoting certificates of interest, and restricting large UP holders from converting shares. The plan seeks to exclude big UP holders from receiving SP shares while allowing subscription at no less than 38 percent. Legal questions remain about authority to grant the extension.

Jack Johnson On Trial For Smuggling Charge

Jack Johnson, the black pugilist, stood arraigned before Judge Carpenter in the U S district court in Chicago on a smuggling charge. The case, tied to alleged violation of the Mann Act, is set for May 5. The jewelry involved was brought from England without duty, reportedly purchased as a gift for his first wife, Etta Duryea Johnson, who died earlier this year.

Arkansas Freak Legislation Fails to Curb Tipping and Cigarettes

From Little Rock on April 22 reports say so called freak laws in Arkansas have not achieved aims. The anti cigarette measure is largely ignored with cigar shops still selling. A legislation targeting tipping imposes penalties on proprietors and staff in hotels restaurants dining cars. No noticeable reduction in tipping observed.

The April conference of the Latter Day Saints adjourned after electing local and sanitarium boards. Mission assignments included A W Green to Palestine and G T Griffith to Australia, with 350 missionaries sent worldwide and several staff reassigned to major cities. The meeting set the next gathering for Independence Missouri on April 6, 1914.
