Board Proceedings in Cass County Iowa 1917 Heavy Voting on Textbooks

Major General J Franklin Bell Biography Summary

Native of Kentucky and West Point graduate of 1878, Bell served in the Indian campaigns and at Wounded Knee. He earned the Medal of Honor during the Filipino War, rose to brigadier general of volunteers, and, after reorganization, became brigadier of regulars. He helped reestablish Fort Leavenworth schools, then led as chief of staff of the army from 1906 to 1910, later command in the Philippines and Western Department before his Governors Island assignment.
