Des Moines April 8. Iowa health department reports that home mishaps caused 782 accidental deaths in 1988, more than motor vehicle crashes at 489. Home falls caused 518 fatalities, with 154 from traffic collisions and 182 from non collision vehicle incidents. Agricultural accidents totaled 114, leading occupational deaths.
Edward Dwyer, 33, was struck on the head by two bandits as he walked home from church. He was taken to a hospital for stitches after the attack, and police are seeking the suspects who fled the scene.

Des Moines April 8 Corn loans to Iowa farmers on their 1988 crop reached 64,000,000 dollars, about 5,000,000 more than the 1938 sealing program. The March 31 deadline was extended to April 15 to finish loans. Towacorn delivered 122,000,000 bushels to reach the loan total at 57 cents per bushel. Bushels were lower than 1938-34, but higher loan rates increased the value.
