Des Moines reports Citizens' National Bank sues Western Union Telegraph Co. for $500 recovery after a false telegram induced payment to a man named Clarence F. King. A prior message claimed to come from United States National Bank of Omaha reading Pay to Clarence A. King $500 Identification waived, leading to the bank's loss.
Postmasters of third and fourth classes are granted leaves of absence by Postmaster General Hitchcock to attend the National League of Post Masters convention in Syracuse, North Carolina on October 6 7 and 8. The leave may extend for as many days as needed but not exceed fifteen.
John Harrison, conductor on the Manchester avenue line, touched a passenger and found him dead. The deceased was identified as TR. 8, Bartle, a carpenter. He enlisted in the war in apparently good health and died of heart disease two minutes later.
