Hearst Served with Oklahoma Libel Suit in Omaha
In Omaha on October 17, William Randolph Hearst was served with a 600000 libel and slander suit filed by Governor Charles N. Haskell of Oklahoma. The papers were served on Hearst aboard Union Pacific train No 2 after a dramatic door breach by Deputy Sheriff Stewart. Hearst doubted the case would reach trial, saying Haskell aimed to time the suit before the election and praising Haskell's resignation as national treasurer. The incident followed a tense scene as Hearst and his wife encountered officers and a locked stateroom door.
