Accurate clock in Columbia Observatory rivals finest timepieces
The Columbia University observatory houses one of the world’s most accurate clocks with a mean error of fifteen one thousandths of a second and a maximum daily error of thirty thousandths. It runs for months with less than half a second per month variance, far surpassing early pocket watches and many modern high priced models. The astronomical clock uses an electric auto winding in a vibration-free, temperature controlled room with a glass vacuum case for stability, detailing the precision measures described by the New York World.
