Contemptible political campaign methods exposed

Report reveals a doctored portrait of Senator Allison circulated by Cummins managers. An original Harris & Ewing photo from February or March 1907 was altered to erase likeness and produce a blank expression, then distributed, with Governor’s office involvement linked through an employe. The Sioux City Tribune backed the effort, calling it the most damnable political outrage in Iowa history.

Engineer Reports City Water Plant Upgrade Needed

Omaha city engineer Andrew Rosewater submitted a report after inspecting the local water plant. He recommends new suction line valves or check valves near pumps to improve priming, plus a check valve in the force main to prevent air ingress. He states the plant has outlived its usefulness and pumps only about 500000 gallons daily, not 721735. He cites coal losses and potential annual interest costs totaling about 2153 dollars, suggesting a new pump could cost under 5000 dollars.

Pump wear blamed for pressure drop and leaks

The witness claims the pump's condition is natural wear, noting it has lasted longer due to good care. He attributes pressure loss to pipe leakage and argues that, with two-inch pipe upper city and twelve-inch lower, a stand pipe could reduce night pumping. He also suggests an auxiliary pump with a daily capacity of 100,000 gallons. Mr. Rosewater received $50 for his work.
