Seevers says Iowa 2-cent fare ruled unconstitutional
Des Moines reports that Hon. George W. Seevers of Minneapolis, general counsel for several Hawley railroads, says the U S Supreme Court ruling striking Minnesota rate laws unconstitutional applies in Iowa. He notes the 2-cent fare suit against Iowa stands in federal court with Minnesota precedent cited by Attorney General Young, who argues state laws may be void as resolutions under federal injunction. Justice Harlan dissented, warning of undermining sovereign state officers duties. The decision rejects Minnesota freight rates and 2-cent fare, while critiquing penalties as potentially harsh for multiple offenses.
