The Iowa Railroad Commissioners postponed the hearing on reducing lump coal freight rates within Iowa to June 28. The Iowa Commercial Coal association seeks a mileage rate revision arguing Illinois rates are lower, while railroads contend Illinois shipments could bypass Iowa reductions and that Illinois traffic supports lower rates. They note Illinois mines produce far more coal, 47,000,000 tons, versus 7,000,000 tons in Iowa, affecting total rate justification.
