Insurgent press fires at Taft and Cummins tax clash

A Des Moines Register and Leader analysis decries insurgent tactics in press coverage of President Taft and Senator Cummins. It accuses editors of bias, claims the corporate tax plan evolved to sidetrack the Cummins bill, and critiques coverage of Republican unity versus insurgent and free trade Democrats.

Wilken Home Burglarized in East Seventh Street

The residence of W A Wilken at 503 East Seventh street was burglarized last night with a neatly executed entry through a screen door. Two five dollar bills and a small purse were taken from Miss Carrie Wilken, while a coat and vest left nearby were disturbed but not stolen. Sheriff Duval and Marshal Cain investigated, bloodhounds unlikely to help due to the trail being obscured. M Giffen of Burlington, a traveling salesman, is visiting his brother J A Giffen while here.
