In Philadelphia on July 29 Cassia Molus ky a young Polish poet shot himself during a celebration with friends. He had been forced to work in a bakery and died by his own action.
Secretary of War J M M Dickinson is summoned from Washington to Nashville to be at the bedside of his son Capt Overton Dickinson, critically ill with a state condition of the lungs, according to late dispatches.
Tipton Ind July 2 An examination of the First National bank of Tipton began to determine losses from the alleged defalcation of assistant cashier Noah R Marker who disappeared leaving a note he could stand it no longer He took enough money to pay expenses Sixty thousand in cash was missing plus a total shortage around 110000 The bank faces possible reopening or receivership while treasury agents investigate Marker’s whereabouts and possible accomplices

Everett July 28 John Stuart confidential secretary to James Hazen at Equitable Life Assurance Society of New York is said to have shot himself near his cabin by Mukilteo. Stuart a key witness against Hyde in the investigation that led to the insurer losing control, had suffered Wall Street losses and moved west to build the forest cabin.
The arrest in Caracas uncovers a Castro revolutionary plan to topple President Gomez. German national Theodore Hauer, newly arrived from Europe, and Caracas lawyer Raymond Porpacen were identified in connection with the plot.
Madrid July 29 King Alfonso issued a decree proclaiming martial law and suspending constitutional guarantees across Spain. Rioters target tax offices and railways as troops reinforce Barcelona. Moors and Spaniards clash near Melilla with heavy losses. Gen Pintos killed during fighting on July 23 and a Spanish column suffers 400 casualties.
Senator William J. Stone of Missouri appeared in Baltimore central district police court to answer an assault charge filed by Lawrence G. Brown a Pennsylvania Railroad waiter. After hearing evidence including Stone's statement the judge ruled the assault justified and dismissed the case.
Sioux City Iowa July 29 John Arendorf central figure in Haddock murder trials died of Brights disease aged 59. Rev George C Haddock pastor of First Methodist church was murdered August 3 1886. Arendorf twice tried for the crime and acquitted at his second trial. Both trials attracted national attention.
Col Leopold Marhreit mayor of Cincinnati and president of the Cincinnati Volksblatt Company died last night aged 67. Vice Mayor John Galvin succeeds him.
Lawson's daughter, a Lake Forest Prentice Coonley and daughter of Thomas W. Lawson of Boston, witnessed a teamster named W. Atkinson cruelly beating a horse, causing it to lose an eye. As a humane society member she had him arrested. he was fined 25 dollars plus costs.
Washington July 29 President Taft voiced emphatic opposition to any lumber tariff above 1.25 per 1000 feet as conferees wrestle over duties. House and senate plans hinge on leather duties, coal, iron ore, and print paper, with lumber and gloves showing major shifts in the tentative schedules.
Victoria B C July 29 a barkentine Orleans bound from the Seychell es to Dunedin was abandoned June 17 two hundred miles off Tasmania after 14 crew labored five days at pumps as water filled hatches. Capt Lindstoel and six men reached Macquarrie Heads Tasmania reporting seven mates lost. Two boats stayed together 11 days then separated in heavy weather.
Washington July 28 Orville Wright broke the aeroplane endurance record flying 50 miles with Lieut Frank P Lahm as passenger The machine remained aloft one hour 12 minutes 40 seconds The prior record was one hour 9 minutes 21 seconds set by Wilbur Wright The flight drew praise from President Taft who congratulated the Wright brothers The event completed the first endurance test required by the U S government for the aircraft
Bogot a July 29 The resignation of President Reyes was presented to the Colombian senate and unanimously accepted August 3 was fixed as the date for the election of his successor to finish the constitutional period which ends August 7, 1910 Gen Reyes had shifted from conservative clerical ties to liberal ideas incurring conservative anger He separated church and state and established capital punishment for treason previously lightly dealt with.
Dispatches from Polotsk report a full cholera panic in the city due to weak sanitary control and a doctor shortage. Forty cases arise daily with only five physicians available, who refuse night calls because of overload.
In a July decree Judge McHenry held that corporation stock cannot be taxed until individuals' debts are deducted from stock face value. W. D. Skinner and others owning Hawkeye Insurance stock seek to exclude $50,000 in debts from $86,652 of stock valued total, leaving $26,652 subject to taxation.

Atlanta July 29 The senate passed a bill ending the practice of issuing trading stamps in Georgia commerce. The move ends a long standing marketing gimmick praised by some as consumer protection and opposed by merchants as a cost.
