Representative Henry B. Boettger of Davenport introduces bills to raise per diem for township officers from 2 to 4 dollars and to boost maximum salaries for county officers and clerks. Mr and Mrs Elias Day arrived this afternoon from Audubon where they pleased an immense audience last evening. They will appear at the Methodist church tonight under Epworth league auspices. The entertainment commences at 8 20 o clock.
Ames Iowa January 19 The great corn sale closed after an afternoon of auctioneers and packed crowds at Margaret Hall. Highest price paid was $85 for A T L Plummer’s champion ten ear sample bought by H F Patterson of the Iowa Agriculturalist. Champion exhibits by C R Bishop brought $65, Proudfit bought back his champion bush for $76, and a single car sold for $28. Total proceeds exceeded $1409, up $400 from last year, funding expenses and leaving the association financially secure. Winners are packing prizes for shipment. unsold corn returns to owners. A Corn Growers Association meeting planned a larger show next year with grain and wool exhibits to accompany the corn display.
Mrs. H M Finkbine hosted a six course stag dinner Saturday honoring her visiting brother Mr Barber of Waverly. Mrs Ross Wallace assisted in serving. Red roses decorated the table. Residents invaded the Wallaces east of the city Saturday evening, surprising the couple before they depart on an extended trip. The gathering lasted a pleasant informal visit with many well wishes offered to the estimable hosts.

A Church of Christ gathering drew a full house as evangelist Mack delivered a stirring sermon on What Will You Do with Jesus Which is Called the Christ. Fourteen individuals were baptized by immersion, three more responded to the invitation, and many more are expected next week.

Drs Morris and Mmmert operated today with two surgeries at the hospital. This morning they removed forty one gall stones and the appendix from Mr Keff fer, an Adair harness maker, and in the afternoon they operated on Mrs V B May berry. Both patients are reported as nicely.
