New Year Society Ball Draws One Hundred Guests
A leading city social event welcomed about one hundred attendees including numerous out of town guests. An orchestra led by Miss Block and Miss McCall played fifteen dances while Mrs Hunt of Omaha and Dr Salisbury of Griswold opened the grand march. At 11:30 refreshments followed an intermission and the crowd rang in the new year with a singing of America.

College Secures $500000 Endowment Drive Triumph

Funeral Services for James Marquis Held Today
At 2.80 o'clock this afternoon funeral services for James Marquis were conducted at the family residence 506 Elm Street by Rev. H. EB. Mack of the Christian church. Choirs sang Abide with Me Asleep in Jesus and Gliding Away as a large gathering attended. Floral offerings were numerous. Pallbearers were Wilson Pratt Jacob Lang H. J. Cavenaugh F. J. Snouffer W. W. Eller and Alva Gaylord. Interment followed at Atlantic cemetery.

Fire Wiped Out the Town in Taft Disaster
The Muskogee Phoenix reports Taft town suffered a major blaze that destroyed the entire business district. Dr. Rogers, a pharmacist, estimates losses around 13 000 dollars with the Bank of Taft and Muskogee Wholesale Grocery among heavy losers. Total losses exceed 50 000 dollars with little insurance coverage. A pet wolf’s howls alerted residents allowing escapes and salvage failed as cash registers and money were consumed by the flames.

Harry G Marken and H M Forsyth of Lewis called on the Atlantic office during their visit. The Knights of Columbus dance was postponed to next Wednesday. Services at three churches were well attended. The Atlantic Gun Club held its New Year shoot at the fair grounds with good reports. Some vandals soap-scrubbed New Year scenes on Chestnut street windows, starting on Fifth and Main with limited energy, leaving the Newsome window partially damaged.
