J Applegate, longtime grain trader with Chicago Board of Trade ties, has been granted a U S patent for a grain dryer. The unit uses hot and cool air to remove moisture, enabling damp grain to reach contract grade and fetch higher prices during transport and sale. The invention is praised as a long sought solution for grain handlers and is expected to benefit the trade.
A reader asks Atlantic In. February 8 1911 about the rule for autos passing teams on public roads. Dr. Robinson leaves for Florida to inspect land with local clients, returning midmonth.

The local post office cannot be reached by phone except via toll calls because of a new rule in effect several days. A special demonstration of Plantation Coffee Fed is announced for the 14th to 18th inclusive at Stier Grocery.
Yesterday in Congress the Indiana senator Beveridge delivered the first Senate speech on the Canadian reciprocity agreement and urged support. Kansas' Bristow pushed for popular election of US senators. A unit form of soldiers protection bill and a consular system reorganization bill passed the Senate, while the House approved a 433-member after March 3, 1913. Both chambers were in session.
George Henningsen and family, longtime residents on Locust Street near Seventh, are moving today to the C. P. Meredith place on East Fifth Street. They will stay there until the Siegel family vacates their current home, after which Siegel will move into the Meredith residence.
