Paving Matter Settled After Prolonged Debate
After months of council debate and heated arguments the city council unanimously approved a brick and asphalt paving plan and instructed engineer Mr Chase to draft the necessary papers. The council also awarded boiler insurance for the water works and light plant to Carl Holman for 200 dollars over five years, with a 30 000 dollar policy. The water rate for the Rock Island railroad now set at 150 dollars monthly for 86 000 gallons and six cents per thousand over that, pending final sanction. The petition from property owners was deemed unnecessary.
