Other posts filled by James Curran, A. R. McCook, John W. Blake, James M. Parsons, P. B. Wolfe, A. Van Wagenen, Robert Van Boskirk and several railway commissioners. State rules rail commission can enforce short line rates
Des Moines April 18 Attorney General Byers ruled the state railroad commission may compel a railroad to charge short line rates between two points even if passengers are routed via the long haul. The Minneapolis and St. Louis case involved routing travelers from Tara and Ruthven to Des Moines via Ft. Dodge with the longer rate. The AG held the commission has authority to order the short line rates north of Tara and Des Moines while trains go via the longer line, and that this would not affect Des Moines rates from Ft. Dodge and south.
