A New York Tribune writer toured a summer rooftop home atop a tall office building. The living room appeared earthlike and cozy, with a single entry from an office and two exits to a parlor and a large bedroom. The roof garden offered a moonlit, desertlike scene amid heat and parapets.
A 350 foot altitude yields splendid night scenery of river lights and city. The sky pilot narrates calm weather and near clouds, noting rare mosquitoes, and describes the house occupants, including boys who soon prefer the subway to the lofty view.
In Okla towns Jen ny Hosmer a sixteen year old heiress elopes with Wesley Moran from Oktaha. They walk to Muskogee, Moran is sent back to Oktaha, and Jenny is taken home in calico dress. Jenny claiming sixteen, Moran and the romance ends with guardianship and a cautious return.
A custody battle in Aigines Louisiana pits rival grandmothers, both spiritualists, against each other over eight year old Jeanette Edwards. Testimony from alleged spirit communications and witnesses centers on who should raise the child. Judge Ransier awarded temporary custody to the child’s maternal grandparents, with costs charged to the paternal grandparents.
Mrs Mary Gugisa of 1817 South Lee Street told Magistrate Hughes her husband Joy sold her and their three children to a man for $1, threatening force. Officers found the starving family in a cold, empty house. a nine month old cried while two older children stayed near a stove. A brother from Poland, Mia Gugisa, afflicted with tuberculosis, also lived there. Magistrate Hughes provided funds for food.
In northern Maine, bear and fisher cat trapping relies on animal caution and clever bait. Fisher leans toward live fish, striking from shore or under overhangs. Fox trapping uses spring-pole setups with suspended bait to lure wary predators, while Allagash river foxes require patient, strategic approaches before the trap closes. A separate note from San Francisco reports J C Mars barred from flight in Hong Kong due to British rules on aeroplanes near fortifications. Mars had toured Honolulu after leaving in January.

Albany report recommends a million dollar farm colony for vagrants to reduce jail and penitentiary costs by humane, self supporting care through labor.
Salt Lake City officials forwarded a check for 758,646.85 signed by Mary W Harriman in payment of the 5 percent inheritance tax on 56,000 shares of common and 51,900 shares of preferred stock in the Union Pacific railroad. The estate of the late H. H. Harriman was valued at 16,380,987. Utah claims the tax as the Union Pacific is incorporated in Utah.
