Well drilling and accident at 580 foot depth
A steep grade caused the team to lose control and eject Mr. Wilkinson from the rig. He broke his right thigh, lay helpless for 22 hours, and was found after the fall. At 528 feet a coal deposit was tapped by a tig drill while drilling for artesian water by the Athena Land and Trust Co. Copper and other minerals were found, but the full extent requires deeper drilling or a shaft. The well remains at 580 feet with no water flow change.
