Maine Republicans Sweep Statewide Vote Gains in 1896

Returns from Maine plantations trickle in while cities show a large Republican plurality. Reed Dingley Mulliken and Boutelle are re-elected as the GOP dominates all counties. Democratic vote down about 40 percent from 1892, with populists and prohibitions also dropping. Total around 124,000 with Republicans 83,160 Democrats 34,840 and scattering 6,500.
