Fulton to Testify in Land Fraud Case Over Veterans Claims

Senator W. Fulton will testify for the government in the land fraud trial involving Jones and Potter. He is to explain his role in promoting Jonen Potter claims after the land department flagged them for fraud. The prosecution contends defendants used soldiers widows and old soldiers to file entries and transfer claims, with Wells hired to recruit veterans for homestead entries.

Northern Pacific plan to build feeder to Umatilla county

Pendleton Tribune reports Northern Pacific officials plan a two‑branch feeder from Pendleton within five years. One line would run south along Birch Creek to Camas Prairie, the other toward Warren tapping the W. and C. R. at Warren then toward Cold Spring on the Columbia. Ukiah could become the feeder terminus, boosting agricultural and livestock shipping from southern and central Oregon and bringing wheat and farming products to market.

Enormous Grain Charters for California Trade This Month

The Portland Journal reports an immense shipment to California this month with the steamship Homer chartered for one trip and several others loaded for the coast. About 8000 tons or 100 000 bushels will depart Portland ports aboard Redondo Aurelia and Homer, with additional cargoes from Columbia and St Paul and other vessels. Wheat markets near Athena quoted at 60 cents.

Murder on the Hillsboro Main Ends in Death

A 15 year old boy shot and killed William W Booth a 60 year old Hillsboro business man and Civil War veteran on Hillsboro s main street. Booth s family and the public react with leniency toward the youth who showed mental weakness. Booth a native of Illinois had moved to Oregon and worked as a school janitor before his death.
