Pig wins futurity prizes and joins famed herd at Salem
A young pig arrived Tuesday from the Salem Fair grounds to join a renowned herd. The animal had won first in its class at Spokane and Salem, plus the futurity prize. Its three litter sisters also won the futurity prize as best hitters. The pig, a large Poland China, is about eight months old and weighs 240 pounds. Its sire The Knox, two years old and weighing 415 pounds, was champion at Salem and Spokane.

Rehearsals for the play On the Little Big Horn begin Tuesday evening with Athena High School cast members refining lines and stagecraft. Girls in intermediate and grammar rooms study peedlecraft under Miss Wolffe, producing wheels and planning future towels and needlework projects. The school newsletter highlights Whitman College Pioneer, a former Athena student Wealey Tompkins stationed in Billings as a recruiting clerk, and Emery Ness training in Oakland, California. Mrs Zerbe and Mrs Laura Zerba visited the girls’ physical culture class. The second student talk at the assembly covered Current Topics. Next Wednesday the Junior Class will entertain. Henry Koepke and manual training students rebuild a Joke Box for the upper hall while the Spectator collects jokes. Sted Crone book racks and library tables are among projects. Fred Andthe began a school in Laween’s room.
