Former Athena merchant Fred Soll dies during golf game
Fred Soll 65 died suddenly while playing golf at a Portland Peninsula course. Born in Germany, he helped open J C Penney stores including Baker Oregon where he led the building drive for a community hotel. Survived by widow two daughters Marguerite and Anna and son Roy Alfred. He was active in Baker civic causes and later lived at 886 Overton Street Portland.

Northern Pacific dining car department has stocked nearly 350 tons of potatoes to supply requirements of about a ton daily.
