Marina torpedoed. Americans report loss of life

Reports from Bear Haven survivors say the British steamer Marina was torpedoed off Skelling’s rock at 4 14 am with two torpedoes. Six Americans died. survivors spent over half an hour in an open boat before reaching safety. President Wilson and Secretary Lansing sought facts as inquiries were sent to Germany.

Deutschland Reaches American Port Safely for Second Time

New London Conn The German merchant submarine Deutschland arrived at the harbor early Wednesday morning. Captain Koenig and the Deutschland Jett Bremen on October 10 The entire crew comprises 25 men. The Deutschland appeared in the harbor shortly after midnight and proceeded to the dock of the Eastern Forwarding Company. Captain F Hinsebo of the Forwarding Company accompanied by Dr Ry health officer and other officials took entry. Quarantine regulations were waived and the vessel tied up at the North German Lloyd dock Willehad. The Deutschland was said to have a large range of chemicals and possibly a submerged line ramp. The report notes the harbor entry was cautious and that the boat was expected to leave on October 10 but was delayed by a collision and returned to port. Clearance were made out for Baltimore or any Atlantic part.

Navy department opens bids for cruisers and subs

Navy department opened Wednesday bids for four battle cruisers and 27 standard submarines as the 1017 building program awaits proposals. Marina Torpedoed. Americans Reported Lost
