Tragic Flood Claims Mrs Clark and Daughters Near Starbuck
Mrs W R Clark and her two daughters Myrtle age 4 and Kittie age 8 perished in Fields Gulch after a wall of water swept through their home six miles west of Starbuck. The home and barn were destroyed, bodies found by neighbors and a search party and later taken to Walla Walla for burial. The Clark man was away in Starbuck at the time of the accident.

Oregon road supervisors ordered to destroy injurious weeds
The new Oregon weed law requires road supervisors to identify Russian and Canada thistles Chinese thistle white mustard cocklebur and saltbush in their districts. They must notify owners or occupants prior to seed formation and file notice with the county clerk. If unaddressed within ten days, authorities may remove weeds, charge costs to landowners and place a lien. Penalties include fines up to 150 for supervisors and 50 to 500 for municipalities failing to comply. The act also establishes enforcement, labor duties, and emergency status.

Umatilla Caledonian Society Holds Eighth Picnic
The Umatilla County Caledonian Society gathered for a two day event at Main and Third Streets pavilion with an evening concert on May 24 featuring Kershaw's Orchestra, soloists, bagpipe dances and a humorous selection. Tomorrow includes more singing dancing and sports with afternoon games and races offering cash prizes. The Umatilla Baptists held the second annual meeting in Pendleton with eight county churches attending and guest workers present.
