Midas Bar Mining Venture and Snake River Ditch Tale

In early Idaho mining days the Midas Bar on the Snake River drew capital from New York to build a ditch and mine equipment, but water shortages and costly construction left the bar abandoned until last spring. John B. Irwin and partners claim thirteen unclaimed claims and plan to pump and mine the bar, which sits just above Boise River on the Idaho side, near the Oregon line. The piece notes rich gravel prospects but warns of the costly, difficult irrigation era.

Sensational silver ore discovery in Oneida County mine

A coal mine near Preston Idaho yields rich silver ore assaying 600 ounces per ton. The Black J mine, located four to five miles from Preston and owned by Franklin and Richmond parties, excites local mining fever. Reports confirm similar assays from Logan and East Lake City. Locals believe the vein could widen with depth and cover a broad area, with rumors of a half interest selling for about $30,000.
