Washington May 4 The government has obtained possession of the Pacific Mail steamer City of Pekin by purchase or charter. The vessel, en route to San Francisco, will be prepared to sail by the 15th with coal stores and troops. The City of Pekin, a large Pacific liner, carries about 4000 tons and could transport around 2000 troops at an average speed of 14 knots. May 7 arrival from Hong Kong expected.
