Colony for Oregon Advance Guard Arrives at Roseburg

A party of 50 tradesmen and mechanics from Columbus Ohio arrived in Portland en route to Roseburg to take possession of the Tipton tract of 2200 acres. They plan to subdivide into 60 farms of 22 acres each with 2 acres per man for self use and 10 acres for fruit, 10 for general purposes. The colony will cut timber, build homes, and grow fruits for cooperative packing and marketing.

X Ray Experiments At Spokane Morgue Attract Attention

Dr H P Montborne a Parisian physician now in Spokane conducted long X ray experiments at the morgue testing a dead burglar and a murdered Chinaman. The shots showed the bullet outline and bone but results were only partly successful with plans to continue. Local men provided equipment and support while officials caution about safety and limits of pioneering work in radiography.

Library Tax Heads Toward Washington Cities

By an act of the last legislature cities in Washington may levy a 4 mill tax for library support. Cities must have a library nucleus of at least $1000 to qualify. Walla Walla seeks to establish a public library on this basis amid efforts to secure the necessary initial endowment.
