The Oregon Voter condemns applying the Oregon Trail label to the Columbia River Highway from Umatilla to Astoria stating pioneers used routes well south of the river and ended at Oregon City. It argues the Lower Columbia River Highway bears no Oregon Trail connection and cites early paths via Barlow Road and inland routes.
The agreement declares that war between France and the United States is unthinkable and creates strong machinery for arbitration to settle disputes. It builds on the long history of friendship dating to the first peace treaty with France signed during Louis XVI’s era and aims to inspire similar pacts with other nations.
R T Cookingham the Sheriff of Umatilla County announces Republican candidacy for another term. He cites impartial administration and past budgetary success turning fine money into the General Fund while defending against moonshining and bootlegging criticisms. He credits deputy oversight and tax department leadership as reasons to continue in office.
On March 24 1928 bids will be received at B B Richards Athena Oregon for fifteen thousand dollars of Umatilla County School District Number Twenty nine bonds dated April 10 1928 and due amounts through 1935 with four and three quarters percent interest. Offers must be unconditional and ready for delivery upon presentation with the board reserving the right to reject any bids. Clarence Zerba Clerk.
